Effective date: October 10, 2026. These terms apply to this website and, when expressly offered, any HerdRanger early-access software or related services.

1. About HerdRanger

HerdRanger is an independent Android companion for people who already run Herdr on a host they control. HerdRanger is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or released by the Herdr project or its contributors.

HerdRanger is not a hosted Herdr service or cloud relay. The app is designed to connect directly to the host you configure over SSH. You are responsible for deciding whether to connect, what actions to take, and whether your environment is appropriate for use.

2. Agreement and eligibility

By using this website, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Notice. If you do not agree, do not use the website. You must be legally able to enter into this agreement in your location. If you use HerdRanger for an organization, you represent that you have authority to accept these terms for it.

Any early-access program may have additional written terms. Those terms control if they conflict with these general website terms.

3. Your host, SSH access, and responsibility

You are responsible for the remote host, operating system, Herdr installation, SSH configuration, network path, backups, credentials, permissions, firewall rules, and all content or commands available through your environment.

You must only connect to systems you own or are authorized to administer. Do not use HerdRanger to bypass access controls, obtain unauthorized access, interfere with another person’s systems, or violate a law, contract, or policy.

Review every host identity, command, lifecycle action, and message before confirming it. Do not rely on HerdRanger as a substitute for backups, monitoring, change control, incident response, or other operational safeguards.

4. Acceptable use

You may not use the website or software to:

• access or attempt to access a system without authorization;
• send malware, destructive commands, spam, or unlawful content;
• probe, scan, overload, or interfere with HerdRanger, Herdr, a host, or a network;
• misrepresent your identity or your authority over a system; or
• reverse engineer, copy, redistribute, or create a competing service from materials you are not permitted to use.

5. Early access and availability

Early access, if offered, is voluntary, limited, and provided for evaluation. It may be changed, suspended, or ended at any time. Access is not guaranteed, and joining an interest list does not create an entitlement, subscription, service-level commitment, employment relationship, or promise of a public release date.

Early-access software may be incomplete, change substantially, contain defects, be incompatible with your environment, or be withdrawn. Do not use it as your only tool for critical operations or rely on it to preserve data.

The website interest form is not a guarantee of beta admission. Any invited tester must follow the instructions and additional beta terms supplied before access. Feedback and support requests must contain only non-sensitive information. The Privacy Policy explains the Formspree intake, the operator’s handling, deletion requests, and the Android app’s local processing.

6. Third-party software and services

HerdRanger may interoperate with Herdr, Android, SSH implementations, operating systems, networks, notification systems, and other third-party software or services. Those systems are controlled by their respective providers. Their terms, licenses, availability, and changes may affect HerdRanger.

HerdRanger does not grant rights to third-party software or trademarks. You are responsible for complying with the licenses and terms that apply to software and hosts you use.

7. Intellectual property

HerdRanger and its website, including their original text, design, code, and branding, are owned by or licensed to the HerdRanger operator unless stated otherwise. These terms give you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive right to use the website and any software made available to you for its intended purpose. No other rights are transferred.

8. Feedback and submissions

If you voluntarily provide feedback, suggestions, or bug reports, you allow the HerdRanger operator to use and incorporate that feedback without payment or restriction. Do not include credentials, private keys, host addresses, terminal output, agent transcripts, or other sensitive information in feedback or website submissions.

9. Privacy

Our Privacy Notice explains how the website and any active intake process handle information. Do not submit passwords, SSH private keys, host addresses, terminal output, or agent transcripts through this website.

10. Disclaimers

To the extent permitted by law, the website and any early-access software are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory. We do not promise that HerdRanger will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, compatible with every host or Android device, or suitable for your particular use.

Nothing in these terms excludes a warranty or right that cannot lawfully be excluded in your location.

11. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, the HerdRanger operator and its contributors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill, access, or business interruption arising from or related to your use of the website or software.

To the extent permitted by law, the total liability for claims arising from or related to the website or software will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid specifically for the affected service during the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim or 100 U.S. dollars. This limit does not apply where applicable law does not permit it.

12. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend and hold harmless the HerdRanger operator and its contributors from claims, losses, liabilities, and reasonable expenses arising from your unauthorized use of the website or software, your violation of these terms, or your violation of another person’s rights or applicable law.

13. Suspension and termination

We may limit, suspend, or end access to the website or any early-access software if we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect users, systems, rights, or the integrity of the service, or if you violate these terms. You may stop using the website or software at any time. Sections that by their nature should continue—including responsibility, intellectual property, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, and dispute provisions—will continue after access ends.

14. Changes

We may update these terms as the website or software changes. The effective date above will identify the current version. If a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to draw attention to it. Your continued use after the updated terms take effect means you accept them.

15. Governing law

These terms will be governed by the laws that apply in the jurisdiction where the HerdRanger operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer law requires otherwise. Any dispute should first be raised through the contact address below so the parties have a reasonable opportunity to resolve it informally.
